Our Story
Tyhoniah began in 2015 with one simple request — our brother wanted a tie-dye shirt that wasn’t mass-produced. What started as a single handmade gift quickly grew into a passion, and then into a business built on color, creativity, and heart.
Shawna launched Tyhoniah that year, starting with basic dyes for kids’ pieces before discovering professional-grade Procion dyes. In 2016, her sister Jeanne joined, and together they’ve been traveling from festival to festival, sharing their handmade art with free spirits everywhere.
As a small, home-based business, every Tyhoniah piece is created with care from start to finish. We source blanks from other small businesses or design and sew them ourselves. Each item is:
✨ Washed and soaked in soda ash for at least three days
✨ Hand-spun and tied into unique patterns
✨ Dyed and left to set for a full week
✨ Rinsed by hand with a hose and washed in special detergents to ensure vibrant, lasting color
Because we are both disabled, this work is more than our art — it’s our livelihood and our way of connecting with community. Every piece represents hours of love, patience, and handwork, and no two will ever be the same.
Today, Tyhoniah is growing beyond the festival circuit and into the online world, bringing our one-of-a-kind creations to dreamers, dancers, and color-lovers everywhere.
✨ Hand-dyed. Heart-made. One-of-a-kind. That’s Tyhoniah.
